Minister of Labour and the Public Service, Pia Glover-Rolle, said at the National Conclave of the Chambers of Commerce 2025 last Friday that the expansion of the digital culture will drive growth.

“This approach ensures that Bahamians are not left behind as industries evolve,” she said.

“It also ensures that employers have access to talent capable of meeting international standards. As we expand digital infrastructure and connectivity, we invite businesses to do the same: to embrace the power of digital transformation to drive growth.

“Together, we can move The Bahamas toward a competitive, technology-driven economy that rewards innovation and productivity.”

DigiLearn Bahamas is a free, national digital skills training program for Bahamians of all ages. Launched in September 2025 and funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, the initiative aims to enhance digital literacy and equip people with the skills needed to thrive in a digital economy.

Glover-Rolle also said: “The future of NIB, social services, and existing pension plans hangs in the balance. Solving this problem requires some difficult conversations. And it requires real solutions. We can’t afford to delay confronting this challenge.

“Another one of the great social changes is the increased global focus on social justice and equity.

“Economic growth has little meaning if it does not reach every household and every community.

“The government’s responsibility is to ensure that development is fair, inclusive, and sustainable.”

She also said, “Our commitment to equity includes fair compensation. This is what drove the decision to increase the national minimum wage, and we’re now waiting for the National Tripartite Council to recommend the next increase.

“When deciding on wage increases, we need to find the right balance. Workers deserve fair pay, but we also need to make sure businesses can continue to thrive and create jobs.”
