The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) continues to advocate for renewable energy use in the business community and is trying to make it easier for companies to understand and afford clean energy.

CEO of the BCCEC, Dr. Leo Rolle, told Guardian Business yesterday, following a renewable energy conference held by the chamber in partnership with Stone Oak Bahamas, that there continues to be a need to address energy consumption and the cost challenges faced by businesses and homeowners.

“We know that we are in a renewable energy push, especially with the reforms to our power generation systems,” said Rolle.

“And, so, I think this provides that measure of opportunity to say that we’re not waiting on the government to be the ones to lead the charge in the energy revolution; it has to be led from a business standpoint as well.”

The conference featured presentations from various vendors and included an energy audit opportunity to identify energy inefficiencies.

A panel that included Minister of the Environment Zane Lightbourne discussed government mandates and strategies for renewable energy by 2030.

The conference emphasized the role the private sector has to play in driving the energy revolution and highlighting ongoing support mechanisms for businesses and homeowners transitioning to renewable energy.

“The conference provided a measure of ongoing conversation, but also ongoing mechanisms that provide support for the businesses as well as the homeowners,” said Rolle.

“And so, the next steps are putting some of the recommendations in place, and then moving forward with renewable energy alternatives that are available for businesses and individual households.”

He explained that the vendors included insurance companies, banks, window and door manufacturers, fiberglass rebar producers, and companies that provide funding mechanisms, like Easy Payday.
