The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) hosted its 2025 National Conclave of Chambers of Commerce in The Bahamas on Friday, November 7, 2025, uniting business leaders, government representatives, and young professionals from across the islands. The day focused on strategies to build a resilient, future-ready Bahamas, with a particular spotlight on the opportunities and challenges faced by the Family Islands.
Morning & Opening
Attendees arrived for breakfast and networking, making early connections and engaging with event sponsors.
Timothy Ingraham, Chairman of BCCEC, delivered opening remarks, followed by Leo Rolle, CEO of BCCEC, introducing the keynote speaker Hon. Pia Glover Rolle, Minister of Labour & the Public Service. Minister Rolle’s address and a fireside chat focused on workforce readiness, digital transformation, and public-private collaboration as pillars for long-term economic resilience.
Family Islands Take Center Stage
A standout portion of the Conclave showcased the Family Island Chambers, including Grand Bahama, Abaco, Eleuthera and Exuma. Leaders shared stories of resilience and innovation, emphasizing how local communities are driving progress despite structural challenges.
A major theme was infrastructure gaps, particularly in energy and telecommunications. Many Family Island businesses face unreliable power and limited connectivity, which can hinder operations, growth, and remote work opportunities. While some businesses have adopted alternatives like satellite internet, these solutions are stopgaps — meaningful improvement in utilities and telecommunications is critical for sustainable development.
The discussion also highlighted the role of young professionals in these communities, who are bringing fresh perspectives, leveraging technology, and bridging generational and workforce gaps to support local economic growth.
Driving Innovation and Leadership
Two dynamic panel discussions explored the future of business and workforce development in the Bahamas:
Innovation & Resilience in Business addressed digital adoption, collaboration across islands, and adapting business models for a changing economy.
Leadership & Workforce Development focused on nurturing leadership talent, enhancing human resources strategies, and fostering cross-sector cooperation.
A Young Professionals session further underscored the importance of mentorship, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness, highlighting the role of emerging leaders in shaping the nation’s economic future.
Embracing the Digital Era
The Conclave featured a Digital TED Talk segment, exploring AI, digital business strategies, branding, and leadership. These presentations reinforced a key message: strong digital presence is essential for Bahamian businesses. Companies must maintain up-to-date websites, engage consistently on social platforms, and demonstrate visible leadership online to strengthen credibility and unlock local and international opportunities.
Key Takeaways
Digital readiness is critical: Businesses that engage consistently online gain credibility, reach, and growth potential.
Infrastructure improvement is urgent: Reliable energy and telecom services are essential for Family Island economic development.
Workforce strategies must bridge generations: Inclusive policies, mentorship, and flexible practices help integrate diverse perspectives.
Collaboration drives success: Public-private partnerships and inter-island cooperation are vital for sustainable growth.
