Proceeds from the BCCEC’s 3rd Annual Chamber Classic Golf Tournament support FOAM’s shelter and outreach efforts for victims of violence.
In a powerful show of corporate social responsibility, the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) donated $1,500 to Families of All Murder Victims (FOAM) following its 3rd Annual Chamber Classic Golf Tournament, held on June 8, 2025.
This donation is part of the Chamber’s conscious shift to use its annual golf tournament to support worthy causes across the country. In previous years, the tournament proceeds supported the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and The Bahamas Crisis Centre. This year, the Chamber turned its attention to FOAM – an organization that provides shelter, support, and a voice for families impacted by violent crime in The Bahamas.
“This donation will make a mighty difference,” said Khandi Gibson, FOAM’s founder. “We’ve recently secured two acres of crown land for our long-awaited shelter and housing project. This funding will go directly toward buying steel, blocks, and cement — the bones of a dream we've held onto for years.”
Currently operating out of a makeshift six-bedroom shelter, FOAM receives daily calls from survivors of domestic violence and family members impacted by homicide — many with nowhere else to turn. “It breaks my heart to tell someone we don’t have space,” Gibson shared. “That’s why our focus is getting this shelter built. We want to have at least six permanent rooms up and running by December — a start to something greater.”
Beyond monetary support, FOAM welcomes volunteers willing to give their time and compassion. “People think giving money is the only way to help, but the most valuable gift is your time,” Gibson emphasized. “Spending time with a traumatized child, helping in the pantry, just being present — that’s what truly helps people heal.”
Dr. Leo Rolle, CEO of the BCCEC, sees this donation as a natural extension of the Chamber’s mission to foster national development. “While we primarily support the growth of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, our broader purpose is to enhance the lives of Bahamians,” he explained. “Charities like FOAM are on the frontlines of that work, protecting the most vulnerable in our society.”
He added, “We want this to be a message to the wider business community: corporate social responsibility matters. If the Chamber - a nonprofit itself - can do it, then surely businesses with more resources can step up and support causes that are driving real change.”
The Chamber would like to extend its heartfelt thanks once again to the golfers, sponsors, and individuals who made this year’s tournament a success.
For those who wish to support FOAM further — whether through financial contributions or volunteering - the organization can be reached via email at foambahamas@gmail.com or by phone at (242) 424-8953.
