News report on Glover-Rolle urges expansion of digital culture

  • Minister of Labour and the Public Service, Pia Glover-Rolle, said at the National Conclave of the Chambers of Commerce 2025 last Friday that the expansion of the digital culture will drive growth.

“This approach ensures that Bahamians are not left behind as industries evolve,” she said.

“It also ensures that employers have access to talent capable of meeting international standards. As we expand digital infrastructure and connectivity, we invite businesses to do the same: to embrace the power of digital transformation to drive growth.

News report on Chamber chiefs' call for better Out Island utilities

  • Family Island Chamber of Commerce chiefs have renewed calls for improved telecommunications and utility services outside New Providence.

Pedro Rolle, immediate past chairman of the Exuma Chamber of Commerce, said communication systems are “one of the most frustrating” parts of operating a business on the Family Islands.

Speaking at the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation’s (BCCEC) National Conclave of Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Rolle said the service provided by both the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) and Aliv is poor, making it extremely difficult to operate businesses or work remotely effectively.

Dr. Leo Rolle, executive director of the BCCEC, in a statement to Guardian Business, said that Minister for Labour and the Public Service Pia Glover-Rolle’s comments on future wage increases being linked to increases in productivity from workers are in line with the BCCEC’s position.

Companies that employ design thinking are able to create better products and services, and ultimately, drive growth and success.

  • The Comeback Kid; QR Codes post: Talks about how QR, short for “quick response”, codes aren’t exactly the newest tech in the business world. They’ve been around for years. (And if you remember their particular usefulness when it came to exchanging BlackBerry Messenger pins, congratulations — you’re officially old.)

But all jokes aside, QR codes have seen a significant resurgence in popularity recently, and they’re one of our top marketing and communication trends for 2023. While in years past, the usefulness of QR codes was limited largely by people’s access to smartphones and the tediousness of having to download specific apps to read them, today’s phones make it as easy as opening your camera.
