Royal Caribbean International’s (RCI) construction work on its first Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island is on schedule and 50 percent complete, President of Royal Caribbean Bahamas Philip Simon said yesterday.
Simon, who spoke to reporters during the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation’s (BCCEC) Power Bruch aboard RCI’s Symphony of the Seas cruise ship, said RCI expects to make its December deadline for the opening of the beach club.
“The construction schedule is on time. We believe we’re about 50 percent there,” said Simon.
“We have obviously the other half of the year to go for an opening in December of 2025.”
Simon said RCI and the government continue to work on the shareholder agreement that will allow Bahamians to take an equity share in the project totaling 49 percent, while RCI will hold 51 percent. According to Simon, they hope to present that equity offering to Bahamians in the third quarter of this year.
“We hope to have that completed soon. Obviously, that is necessary to move forward in the process before we get to the Securities Commission, etc.,” he said.
He explained that the vendor for a ferry service that will transfer visitors from the cruise port to the Royal Beach Club has been identified, with the contract yet to be finalized.
During the presentations portion of the BCCEC’s Power Brunch, Harbormaster for the Royal Beach Club Captain Cameron Gibson gave a preview of the fit-for-purpose ferries that will transport guest to the club.
He showed the crowd two double-deck catamarans with colorful motifs designed to be immediately reminiscent of The Bahamas.
Simon also explained that he and his team continue to seek out staff for the Royal Beach Club, which is designed to have an all-Bahamian staff and vendor complement. Yesterday, Royal Caribbean Bahamas announced its Director of Technical Maintenance Alphonso Bowe, Director of Human Resources Simmone Bowe; and Head of Communications C. Jillian Gray.
