BCCEC Welcomes Summer Interns 2025

  • This summer, The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers' Confederation was thrilled to welcome five brilliant interns from the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture: Serenity Mackey, Shannon Knowles, Denver Gaitor, Garron Jones, and Tranard Clyde. A key highlight of their experience was the research and presentation of topics critical to our local business community, showcasing their hard work and professional growth.

  • In their research on "Navigating Social Media as a Local Business," the interns found that digital modernization is vital for local businesses to stay competitive. While many "play safe," embracing modern trends, especially social media, is essential. Social media offers a cost-effective way to boost brand visibility, increase customer engagement, and expand a company's reach both locally and internationally.

  • Their second major project, "How Businesses Can Use Free Digital Tools to Manage Their Operations," focused on a critical shift in how small businesses operate. The interns' research demonstrated that digital transformation is a critical shift in how small businesses operate, using technology to improve processes and customer interactions. For small businesses in The Bahamas, embracing digital tools like e-commerce and mobile payments is vital for navigating a challenging market. This approach helps them streamline operations, adapt to new market demands, and run more efficiently.

  • The interns gained invaluable experience by presenting their findings to our Chamber staff and leadership, showcasing their hard work and professional growth. We are proud of their contributions and excited to see them apply these skills as they continue their professional journeys.

Highlights from the BCCEC & Miami Gardens Chamber Strategic Meeting

  • The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce recently met with the Miami Gardens Chamber of Commerce to explore opportunities for cross-border collaboration. Andre Williams, a real estate attorney and former city councilman from Miami Gardens, introduced himself and expressed a strong interest in partnering with the Bahamas Chamber. He emphasized the potential for mutual business development, particularly in areas such as real estate, trade, and shipping. This meeting was held on Friday, July 25th, at the Chamber of Commerce’s office, with Chamber members attending both in person and virtually. Also in attendance were representatives from several Family Island Chambers, including Abaco, Exuma, Grand Bahama, and Long Island, underscoring the national interest in strengthening international partnerships.

BCCEC makes a charitable donation to FOAM

  • In a powerful show of corporate social responsibility, the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) donated $1,500 to Families of All Murder Victims (FOAM) following its 3rd Annual Chamber Classic Golf Tournament, held on June 8, 2025. This donation is part of the Chamber’s conscious shift to use its annual golf tournament to support worthy causes across the country. In previous years, the tournament proceeds supported the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and The Bahamas Crisis Centre. This year, the Chamber turned its attention to FOAM – an organization that provides shelter, support, and a voice for families impacted by violent crime in The Bahamas.

  • The Science of Branding post: Sheds light on how, contrary to the belief that consumer decisions are purely logical, brand communication works by building emotional connections that influence subconscious and often irrational purchasing decisions. This is the field of neuromarketing, which studies how brand messages are processed by the brain to affect consumer choices.

  • Holistic Branding in Tourism post: At the 34th Bahamas Business Outlook conference, a panel discussion on Luxury Tourism highlighted the strategy to grow this key sector. The main point of the conversation was to ensure that the high price point of luxury travel in The Bahamas is justified by an exceptional, high-end experience, which is supported by properties like Baha Mar, Four Seasons, and the upcoming Rosewood Exuma.

  • Design Thinking and the Destination Brand post: Sheds light on how, despite tourism being a major global industry, destinations need to offer more than just tangible assets to attract tourists and investors. The key is to build a sustainable destination brand by focusing on intangible elements like culture and unique experiences. This requires a strategic, holistic approach that goes beyond traditional policymaking.
