Give us a brief history of your business and what makes it unique: Founded in 1945, we are proud of our heritage and celebrate being a third-generation Bahamian family business that continues today. For 77 years, Damianos Sotheby’s International Realty has offered a comprehensive agent and client support system, with an emphasis on experience, knowledge and integrity, from the most knowledgeable real estate professionals in The Bahamas.
What’s the most exciting recent highlight for your business? In January 2021, Damianos Sotheby’s International Realty was appointed as the exclusive sales representative for the Baha Mar Residences which are located in the resort’s SLS and Rosewood towers. Working with Baha Mar has been the most impactful strategic move we’ve made in the 77-year history of our company, with the exception of becoming a Sotheby’s International Realty franchise in 2005.
Where do you hope to see your business in 12 months? The level of real estate activity throughout all of our markets over the past year has been historical, to say the least, and there is very little sign of it slowing down as we move through 2022. Demand remains very high, especially for waterfront homes and homes with amenities like swimming pools and docks. Due to this quick-moving market, we’ve also remained focused this year on growing our team in key markets to ensure we’re offering every client the utmost in service.
What advice would you offer to someone starting their own small business? The importance of avoiding shortcuts and to think strategically and long-term was instilled in me from an early age so that would be my first recommendation. Perhaps more importantly, though, is making everyone feel valued and appreciated. Always make decisions that are in the best interest of your clients and your team members. These two groups of people are the only reason your company exists and the only way your organization will be a success.
