On January 29, 2025, the Bahamas Trade Commission, in partnership with Squire Patton Boggs—a leading international law firm—hosted an informative and interactive training session titled "Introduction to International Arbitration." This hybrid event, conducted both in person at the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers' Confederation (BCCEC) office and virtually via Zoom, allowed participants from various locations to engage with the session. A small group of attendees participated in-office, while the majority joined remotely.
The training session provided a comprehensive overview of international arbitration, including its advantages and practical tips for drafting arbitration clauses in contracts. It also explored critical topics related to international investment protection. With its targeted focus, the session catered to government officials, private practice lawyers, in-house counsel, and business professionals engaged in international trade.
Charles (Chip) B. Rosenberg, a Partner at Squire Patton Boggs and a seasoned expert in the field, led the session. Squire Patton Boggs is widely recognized for its success in international arbitration, having represented 34 states, the European Commission, and numerous countries across Latin America and the Caribbean.
This collaborative effort between the Bahamas Trade Commission and the BCCEC underscores the commitment to equipping local professionals with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate complex international business and legal frameworks. Attendees expressed appreciation for the session's engaging and practical content, which provided valuable insights for their professional growth.
Thank you to Senator Barry Griffin for putting this event together. The BCCEC looks forward to hosting more events like this that foster professional development and international collaboration!
