Digital transformation is a fundamental change in mindset, processes, and customer engagement that empowers small institutions to run more efficiently. It is a strategic combination of digital technologies into every part of a business which reshapes how value is created and delivered. Embracing digital tools is extremely important to small businesses in The Bahamas. The influx of tourism and other older demanding market creates a challenging strain, but newer digital platforms such as e-commerce marketplace, cloud-based management systems and mobile payment solutions poses a new market and streamline operations.

The living conditions in recent times has been challenging for many, especially from the cost constraints of everything. Small businesses are vowed to face some kind of cost constraint living in this economy. High fixed rent, business license fees, employee’s pay, and especially the unpredictable Bahamas Power & Light (BPL) rates make profit margins very slim. Additionally, the import dependent supply chains equipment, packaging and ingredients carry steep freight, customs and currency pegged import costs. On the other hand, the recent use of digital tools is crucial to a small business trying to survive this hectic era. The constant paying of the subscription fees for software licenses, are easily accessible and free. That can free up extra cash for rent, supplies, or any execs experiences. Moreover, many free tools include a built-in guide, quick start videos, and community forums. Which can be learned during free time rather than spending on formal courses.

The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce can drive digital adoption such as partnering with various agencies like SBDC’s Access Accelerator and different government organizations to enhance and expand the e-marketplace opportunities. A one-on-one advisory service that offers member personalized digital audits and consulting to map out a tailored roadmap for tools selection and integration. The chamber has vowed to provide step by step guide and comparison of free and low cost for accounting, designs, marketing, and project management.
