The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Chartered Financial Analysts Society recently partnered to host a luncheon designed to provide the business community with an update on the Lynden Pindling International Airport project. Nassau Airport Development Company Vice President of Development, Stewart Steeves, addressed the group of interested persons and stakeholders. Giving a detailed overview of the airport’s history and current management structure, Steeves reported on N.A.D.’s progress since 2007, when the company was established as a subsidiary of the Airport Authority. N.A.D. is 100% owned by the government of The Bahamas and has a 30-year lease on the airport. The Company is managed by Vancouver Airport Services, a global airport operator and investor, who manage an expanding network of 18 airports.

Explaining N.A.D.’s mission for LPIA, Stewart noted, “Our objective is to develop and transform the Airport into a premier world class facility operated in a most efficient and commercial manner while remaining cost competitive.” The company of 147 employees is currently responsible for airport operations and facility management, retail operations, environmental management, roads, parking lots and runways and ultimately the financing and construction of the new airport terminals. While luncheon participants were pleased to learn of the improvements made to date at LPIA, including those to the parking lots, existing terminal facilities and retail outlets, much focus was placed on the plans for the new state of the art terminals intended to be one of the best airports, not only in the Caribbean but in North America when completed in 2012. The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization, which represents a wide cross-section of private sector businesses in The Bahamas.
