On the 1st of January, 2011 the Bahamas Employers Confederation (BECon) merged with the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce (BCOC) to form The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation, (BCCEC). Although the mandate of BECon has been spread over the entire BCCEC, most notably via training through the Chamber Institute, the Employment and Labour Relations Division of the BCCEC is where the core functions of what was BECon are currently carried out.
The objects of the BCCEC includes the mandate to be the organization most representative of employers in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas in order to represent employers in The Bahamas on national, regional and global levels. The BCCEC supports the common interest of employers in order to create and promote the best environment for employers, encourages the establishment and maintenance of fair and reasonable employment practices and promotes strict adherence to law and contractual obligations in employer and employee relations.
The BCCEC is officially recognized as the representative of employers in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas on all social and labour policy issues by the government of The Bahamas and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The BCCEC has a permanent seat at the ILO’s International Labour Conference in Geneva that meets yearly to work with our Social Partners of worker representatives and government representatives in a tripartite approach at the international level.
The BCCEC promotes and protects the interests of employers in national, regional and international forums, pursuing issues of public interest in a changing global society. For this reason the BCCEC maintains membership in the Caribbean Employers' Confederation (CEC) based in Trinidad and the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) based in Geneva.
